Today my buyers closed on 32 Bellis Circle in Cambridge—a charming single-family home they never expected to own when we first began our search.
They were first-time buyers with a healthy budget and one clear goal: to put down roots in Cambridge or Brookline. They also understood the reality of today's market. At their price point, the most likely outcome was a condominium, so that's where our search began.
For nearly a year, we toured condos throughout Cambridge and Brookline. Some were beautiful. A few came close.
Over time, though, the conversation shifted.
"If we have a baby someday, how do we carry groceries and the baby inside safely?"
"How does it work if the heat is centrally controlled? We don't want to freeze!"
"What if we want to make improvements, but the condo association has different priorities?"
These weren't questions about floor plans or finishes. It became clear that they valued the independence, privacy, and flexibility of a single-family home.
We continued looking at condos while keeping an eye out for the rare single-family opportunity that might fit both their lifestyle and their budget.
Then 32 Bellis Circle came along.
Tucked away on a quiet street near Porter Square, it felt like a hidden gem. A storybook two-bedroom, two-bath home (condo alternative) with updated kitchen and baths, a private back garden, and an inviting front porch wrapped around a graceful pear tree. It offered the manageable size and price in many condos, with the freedom and privacy of a single-family home.
Sometimes the right home isn't the one you expect to buy. It's the one that quietly proves to be the better fit. I'm so happy for these buyers, who found not only a beautiful house, but a home that matches up with the life they're building.
